We are excited to share some roaring good news! Our resident Sumatran Tiger, Maya, has given birth to a healthy male cub.
The cub was born in the early hours of Monday morning and has been bonding well with his mother in the private den. Veterinary staff have conducted their first check-up and confirm he is strong, vocal, and feeding well.
Sumatran tigers are critically endangered, with fewer than 400 estimated to remain in the wild. This birth represents a significant success for the Global Species Management Plan.
"Every new birth is a beacon of hope for the species. We are incredibly proud of our team's hard work." - Dr. Alan Grant, Head Keeper
The cub will remain off-exhibit for the next few months to allow for critical bonding time. We expect him to make his public debut in late January.
